[FIX] Windows 7 Fails to Read DVDs Burned Using Windows XP


If you use Windows 7 and it sometimes fails to read your DVDs, here is a solution for you.

Microsoft has acknowledged an issue found in Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 which causes failure in reading DVDs burned using Windows XP and released a hotfix to fix this glitch

SYMPTOM:

Consider the following scenario:

    * You use a Windows XP-based computer to write data to a DVD.
    * You do not finalize the DVD.
    * You try to read the DVD on a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer.

In this scenario, the data may not be visible.


CAUSE:
This issue occurs because the DVD is missing internal session data. This causes Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 to treat the DVD as invalid.


WORKAROUND: 
To work around this problem, finalize the DVD on the Windows XP-based computer.


SOLUTION:

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article.
