Mosaic Desktop Brings Windows 8 Metro UI to Windows 7 [Almost]

There are already many tools out there on the Internet that enables you to give a Windows 8 look to your Windows 7. Some of them I’ve already posted on this blog. You should check them out here. Here’s another awesome tool that brings Windows 8 Metro Style UI to Windows 7.

You must have heard about the tile-based start page, which is coming up with Windows 8, as confirmed by Microsoft. That’s the biggest change in Windows 8’s interface as the start menu has been replaced by new start page, using the tile-based Metro UI you’re probably familiar with if you have used latest Windows phones.

That’s exactly what you’ll get with Mosaic desktop without having to wait until Windows 8 is released. Mosaic brings tiled based interface to your desktop, each tiles can be used as a widget to house different information panels, some of which show information about your computer, while other pull in information from the internet.

When you run Mosaic setup on your computer, at the front page, you’ll see two widgets – Clock and Mosaic Store. In Mosaic store, there are number of widgets to choose from, that can be added to your Mosaic screen. Also, an arrow at the top-right corner of the screen, when clicked, brings up sidebar which has options to pin apps and websites to the UI.

Visit the Mosaic Store to install widgets like Gmail, Control Panel, Hotmail, Music, Pictures , Twitter and 7 more widgets which can be installed separately. When you’ve installed any of these widgets, you’re just a click away to access Gmail, Hotmail or whatever you’ve installed. Also, from the sidebar, you can add programs or websites that you use most frequently as a shortcut to the main screen.
As this tool is still in its beta stage, some features are not working like ‘Friends’ function from the sidebar has been integrated with Facebook but when you’ll try to login it returns an error. You’ll need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your computer before you try this tool out.

You can download Mosaic Desktop here.
