WhatsApp finally adds voice calls for all Android users

WhatsApp is now rolling out an update for its Android version that enables voice calls for all users.

Last month, we reported that some Android users in India had started getting the voice calling functionality in WhatsApp. The rollout of the feature was later expanded to include the users who received calls from those who already had it enabled.

Now, WhatsApp has finally opened up the floodgates for all with the latest update that has hit the Google Play Store. Users who install this version will see an additional "Calls" tab inside the main app window. In addition to voice calling, the new update also brings a slightly tweaked UI to the popular messaging application.

With the general availability of voice calling for the larger WhatsApp user base under way, developers can now focus on bringing it to the other platforms on which the application is available as well. iPhone users are expected to be next in line, while there is still no word about Windows Phone and BlackBerry users.

Users who haven't already received the update should give it some time, as it might take a bit to reach all markets.

‪WhatsApp‬ Calling feature now available for all ‪ Android‬ users. Just update your WhatsApp to version 2.12.5 or later via Google Play.
